North Shore Photographic Challenge 2025

Posted in: . | 0

The North Shore Challenge is back after a one year hiatus. Organized by the North Shore Photographic Society under the auspices of the Canadian Association for Photographic Art (CAPA), Pacific Zone, this is considered to be the premier photographic competition in Western Canada.

The Whitehorse Photography Club has participated in this long running competition since sometime in the 1990’s, when we had to mail in our members’ precious original film transparencies for projection and judging at a live event in Vancouver. Now, of course, we upload digital files which are scored by the judges on their own computers prior to the live event that now is held on Zoom so we can all enjoy it without even leaving home. Though we are one of the smallest clubs in the competition, we usually have ranked well above our weight in the final standings.

This is an open competition, with essentially no limitations on subject matter or technique. Image editing also is mostly unrestricted, except that it must contain only the photographer’s own imagery and use of generative AI is prohibited. In this competition the focus is on artistic merit and creativity.

Now we are soliciting submissions for our club’s entry into the latest edition of the Challenge. Note that you must be a current paid up member of the Whitehorse Photography Club to participate in our entry. (The fillable PDF membership application is available here. Complete it and submit it by email; remit the membership dues by eTransfer.)

On January 5th, 2025 we will hold our selection meeting to choose the best one of up to 4 images each member may submit. Ann Alimi, a CAPA certified judge, will evaluate these initial selections and recommend the 6 best images that will constitute our club’s entry.

We hope many of you will participate, which will improve our club’s chances of scoring well again.
