North Shore Challenge 2024 Cancelled

Posted in: . | 0

The North Shore Photographic Challenge has run reliably every year for decades as an annual competition conducted by the North Shore Photographic Society under the auspices of the Canadian Association for Photographic Art. The Whitehorse Photography Club has participated in this competition annually for almost as long, going back to the days when we had to mail out our original photographic film transparencies for our entry.

However, the North Shore club has announced that they have had to cancel the 2024 Challenge, citing insufficient volunteers and the need to respond to the rapidly evolving environment surrounding Artificial Intelligence (AI). They state that they intend to renew the North Shore Challenge in 2025.

The above named competition is again ON, and we again will submit, as a club, up to 6 (SIX) images as our contribution. We hope to again make ourselves known to all those BIG clubs from down south – we have done well out of the 25-30 participating clubs in recent years. Participating club members must be a permanent resident of either BC or Yukon, and may enter with only one club. As the name denotes – this is a nature image competition (no sign of man, domestic animals or plants). This competition is following Canadian Association for Photographic Art (CAPA) guidelines and it is organized by the Lions Gate Camera Club.

We will hold our club selection meeting on Sunday, November 5. If you are a member you should have received information by email for submitting images. If you are not a current paid up member of the Whitehorse Photography Club and you want to participate in this and other club activities, you can join online using the fillable PDF membership application and paying the $45 annual membership fee by e-Transfer.

North Shore Photographic Challenge 2023

Judging for the 39th Annual North Shore Photographic Challenge was presented on March 4th. We were one of 25 member clubs in the Canadian Association for Photographic Art’s (CAPA) Pacific Zone (BC and Yukon) that participated.

Each club submitted 6 images, all from different members, and each image was scored out of 10 by three CAPA certified judges. Those numbers were added up for a maximum possible score of 30 points for each image, 180 points for each club entry. Our little club earned 134.5 points, ranking us in a tie for 12th place.

Open the gallery below to view the images from our entry and their scores.
